The Dallas Cowboys lost much of their offense when Tony Pollard left Sunday’s NFC Division playoff game with an injury to his left leg in the first half.
Pollard was taken to the locker room with his leg in a cast and did not return in the Cowboys’ 19–12 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
According to multiple reports, Pollard suffered a broken left fibula and suffered a high ankle sprain when tackled late in the second quarter after an 8-yard gain.
“That hurt,” said Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, per ESPN. “Just a guy who adds so much to our attack, adds so much to our team. His energy. His energy on the sidelines, in the group, the way he gets guys to work. He’s a special teammate, special player and of course hurt that one.”

Pollard is expected to require surgery, with a recovery time of about three months, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
The injury could also spell the end of Pollard’s tenure with the Cowboys — following a season that saw him rush for more than 1,000 yards, score 12 touchdowns and earn his first Pro Bowl nomination.
Pollard, 25, will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
